Part-Time Special Study

College graduates may apply for admission as part time non-degree students, a status that would entitle you to take one or at the most two courses per semester. This would not, however, constitute admission to a degree program. To learn more about Part Time Special Study and to download application materials, click on more below.

GRE requirement:  All applicants to Master's level programs are required to take the GRE unless they have been awarded a degree at the Doctoral level.  If you have earned a Master's degree you are not exempt from this requirement.

Spring 2008 Admissions Interview Scheduling:

Interviews are typically scheduled for Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.  Interviews can be held on other days of the work week with prior arrangement, if necessary.  Interviews are not held on weekends.  We will not schedule an interview appointment until we have received, reviewed and processed your application.  Usually, the interview can take place  three - four weeks from the time we receive your application packet, providing the packet is complete and all credentials are in order.  During the spring of 2008 we will NOT be scheduling interviews during the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of Holy Week (March 19-21) or during Easter Week (March 24-28) which coincides this year with our spring break.  If you have a particular time frame in mind during which you can most easily visit Virginia Seminary for your interview please DO include those dates in your application packet, written prominently on a separate piece of paper that is evident as the packet is opened.

We are happy to offer overnight accommodations and to plan activities and appointments that will introduce you to the communal and academic life at VTS along with the interview.

TIPS FOR MAILING YOUR APPLICATION MATERIALS:

Be sure to include the words "Admissions Office" on the address line. This will assure that your packet finds its way to the appropriate office.

DO NOT use United States Postal Service Express delivery mailers, USPS certified mail or return receipt mail. Although you would think that using these means would guarantee prompt delivery of the packet, that is not the case. Because of the procedures at our local post office, using one of these methods will actually cause a delay in your packet being delivered. If you wish to use a means to send your packet that can be tracked, use United Postal Service, FedEx, or another courier company of that type.

Our Institution Code for the GRE and TOEFL:  Our institution code is 5542.  In some Educational Testing Service information you may find the seminary listed under our formal name "Protestant Episcopal Theological Seminary in Virginia".  We have recently requested that our listing be changed to the name by which we are more widely known, "Virginia Theological Seminary".

Rolling Admissions and Deadlines
Applications are received, admissions interviews held and offers of admission are made on a rolling basis throughout the academic year. Because the number of spaces for new students is limited, prospective students are urged to apply as early as possible. Applicants to the M.Div. program who are in the ordination process may apply and interview before postulancy is granted, however, any offer of admission made is contingent upon the applicant being named a postulant.

Dormitory space is limited and assigned on a “first come-first served” basis. Those who desire to live in a dorm should plan to complete the admissions process early to increase the likelihood that a room will be available for them. Students who pay their deposits after all on-campus housing is filled must make their own housing arrangements off campus.
