2008 John Hines Preaching Award
The Rev. Mike Kinman, executive director of Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation, has been named the recipient of Virginia Theological Seminary's John Hines Preaching Award for 2008. Mr. Kinman's insightful sermon, based on the parable of the Good Samaritan, was preached at Christ Church Cathedral, St. Louis, Missouri, and was selected out of 94 award submissions. More

2008 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans Award
The Virginia Theological Seminary has awarded the Honorable Eric R. "Rick" Harrington, a judge in the tenth Judicial Court in Natchitoches, Louisiana and active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Western Louisiana, with the 2008 Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans (LPWE) Award. The award is given each year by the Seminary to honor an Episcopal layperson who, over a significant period of time, has given leadership and unique witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ within his or her congregation, community, Diocese and in the world. Bell/Woolfall Fellowship Deadline Extended to March 15
The W. Cosby Bell Fellowship Fund and the Hulbert A. Woolfall Memorial Fund make available financial assistance to highly competent persons who are graduates of Virginia Seminary or members of its faculty and who are pursuing a post-seminary academic degree, normally a Ph.D. degree, with the intention of teaching one of the theological disciplines in a seminary or other center of higher education. Grants are given for one year but may be renewed for a second and third year upon evidence of satisfactory progress.
Those interested in applying for these fellowships should contact the Office of the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at (703) 461-1722 no later than March 1, 2008.

Two New VTS Commentaries
VTS has launched two new web commentaries, one focusing on the Anglican Communion and the other on issues relating to religion and culture. The commentaries, written by the Rev. Dr. Roger Ferlo and the Rev. Dr. Barney Hawkins, will be updated weekly.

Bishop Payne Scholarship Fund Announced
The Virginia Theological Seminary has announced the Bishop Payne Scholarship Fund, an award of full tuition for any full or part-time black student who is an Episcopalian from a province within the Episcopal Church U.S.A. (ECUSA) and who is entering the Master in Divinity, Master in Theological Studies, Master of Arts in Christian Education, Anglican Studies or Full-time Special Student programs.
