Supporting Theological Education, the Engagement of Anglican Leaders and Scholars in Study, Research and Conversation, and Interfaith Dynamics across the Communion

The Center for Anglican Communion Studies was created by the Board of Trustees in 1998 and has three defining goals in this year of the Lambeth Conference. At the Center’s heart is a commitment to the historic nature of the Anglican Communion and its contemporary possibilities and challenges.

The first goal of the Center is theological education in the Communion.  CACS will focus on our international students program, the Anglican Studies program, crosscultural opportunities for faculty and students and relationships with our global partners worldwide.  We will offer ourselves in a number of ways as a conversation partner for those seeking excellence in theological education in the Anglican Communion.

The second goal is to develop research and significant literature on the Communion. We will host Anglican leaders and scholars; encourage crosscultural experiences; and consider ways to disseminate resources and material communion-wide.

The third goal of the Center is to explore interreligious dynamics, the cultural context of the Communion.  CACS will host interreligious scholars as we seek to impact the teaching and research profile of the Seminary and to challenge the traditional ways we have shaped leaders for twenty-first century service in church and society.

The Center for Anglican Communion Studies at Virginia Theological Seminary is a place with an open door to all.  We seek to listen, to learn and to lead.  We seek to serve in Christ’s name and for the sake of the Anglican Communion.  We remain committed to the long-term development of the Communion.
