Virginia Theological Seminary offers lay and ordained church and school leaders advanced professional education leading to a Doctor of Ministry with specialization in Ministry Development and Educational Leadership.
Doctoral studies are generally completed in four to five years, with extensions granted under special circumstances. Three years are required to complete the residencies.
The Doctor of Ministry degree is conferred each May at commencement and all work, including the oral defense, must be completed by March 15 of the year of graduation.
The primary goal of the D.Min. in Ministry Development is to provide skills and resources for the ministerial leadership that is needed in forming a community of faith for the shared practice of mission and ministry in Jesus' name.
The D.Min. in Educational Leadership provides school leaders the opportunity to reflect on their vocation and to develop new professional skills in critical areas of school ministry.
The Rev. Dr. Roger Ferlo is the acting director of the Doctor of Ministry Program
