Welcome to the Institute for Christian Formation and Leadership (ICFL). Founded in 2007, the Institute offers programs of intellectual renewal and spiritual refreshment to both clergy and lay people. Participants are challenged to deepen their knowledge of God and to sharpen, strengthen and renew their skills for leadership in church and society.
Degree programs administered through the Institute include the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) with specializations in Ministry Development and Educational Leadership, and the Master of Arts in Christian Education (MACE). The Center for the Ministry of Teaching (CMT), established in 1985, is an ecumenical resource and research center that supports Christian formation and education both locally and nationally. Besides several occasional conferences (such as the Sabbatical Planning Conference for Clergy), the Institute offers programs in leadership training and continuing education including Fridays at the Seminary, the Evening School of Theology, The Saturday School for Leadership, and The Summer Collegium, an ecumenical project in support of small church ministry. The Institute also houses the seminary’s Office of Field Education for students enrolled in the Master of Divinity program, and The Second Three Years, a mentoring program to support VTS graduates in their first three years of ordained ministry.
