 | Small Churches - Big Ideas Welcome to Virginia Theological Seminary's small church resource page. This page grew out of the Summer Collegium, a Lilly Endowment project in support of small congregations, which served clergy and spouses/partners of small congregations in all denominations around the U.S. and Canada for five years. On this page you'll find several things: downloadable bibliographies, book reviews, and other resources; a commentary written by a former Summer Collegium participant or faculty member reflecting on their experience in the small church; a link to a Facebook group to discuss these commentaries and offer your own ideas; and videos of Summer Collegium keynotes and workshops from the five years of the project. It is our hope that you will use these free resources to enhance and build up the vital ministry in your small congregation. Use them with your board, your congregation, your colleagues. Please note that although these resources are free for your use, they are for non-profit use only. Some materials are copyrighted, and the copyright information must be included if you use them. May God bless your ministry in the small church! |
| | The Summer Collegium was a nine-day intensive residential program, ecumenical in scope, for clergy in mid-career serving small congregations. The program ran from 2006 through 2010. During the summer the Collegium addressed the specific needs of clergy and clergy households committed to small-church ministry. In addition to an array of workshops, worship, and small group sessions, the Collegium organized and sponsored a one-day Small Church Religious Arts Festival.
