Tomorrow at 10:00 am the Diocese of Washington, family, and friends will gather at the National Cathedral to celebrate the life and ministry of the Rt. Rev. Jane Holmes Dixon who died in her sleep during the early morning hours of Christmas Day. What a remarkable woman of Christian faith and leadership. So much to be thankful for in her ministry as priest and bishop in service to the diocese, the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion.
Bishop Dixon was a great friend of VTS. We are proud to have her as a 1982 M.Div. graduate of the Seminary and an active member of the Board of Trustees. In 1993 we were joyous in celebrating her 1992 election as the suffragan bishop for the Diocese of Washington in awarding her a Doctor of Divinity, honoris causa. We now join all those who mourn, we pray especially for her family, and we give thanks for her life and ministry. In all of this, I am reminded how much the Seminary is but a part of this larger body, the body of Christ, and how we are challenged and sustained, called and embraced, by the communion of Saints.
