The ink was still wet on my letter of agreement as the new Director of the Center for the Ministry of Teaching when our Dean, Ian Markham, pulled me aside to say, “I have a vision for something completely different.” Today I am excited to announce that vision has come to fruition.
VTS and the Center for the Ministry of Teaching will host the first VTS Christian Rock Festival on Saturday, April 13th! The day will begin with a morning Quidditch clinic and tournament, include a poetry and spoken word performance space, and offer an impressive lineup of really good Christian musicians and bands from Noon to 10 p.m. We've already booked Joel Joa (urban), The Sloan River Project (contemporary rock), Fran McKendree (singer-songwriter), The Letter Black (hard rock), and headliner: Five Iron Frenzy (third wave ska)!
Like any great music festival there will be food – lots of it – and activities to draw the young and young at heart together for a day of celebration and thanksgiving. Admission is FREE! Put the date on your calendar! Spread the word! Invite youth and young adults from your congregations and neighborhoods to join the fun, as we give shape to words we pray regularly:
O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
And raise a loud shout to him with psalms (and permits from the City of Alexandria)
For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. (Psalm 95:1-3)
This is a moment for serious evangelism. Seize it!
