Each year VTS has many ambassadors of the Gospel connecting the Seminary to the Church and world. They personify the signature biblical quotation of the Seminary: “Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel.” This week we celebrate and pray “Godspeed” for Dorothy Linthicum, Lecturer in Christian Education and Program Coordinator at our Center for the Ministry of Teaching, as she takes a year’s leave to serve as guest lecturer at the College of the Transfiguration, the residential college of the Anglican Church of Southern Africa in Grahamstown, South Africa.
Dorothy has worked with the College of the Transfiguration in developing a curriculum in Christian education and has successfully introduced the use of Godly Play. This year she will be teaching in Christian formation and on weekends conduct workshops and give lectures in the dioceses of the Church of Southern Africa. This will include a focus on “digital ministry”, which is to say, how to use and develop resources on-line for formation and education. Dorothy’s husband, Tom Linthicum, a professional journalist, will join her and serve as a guest lecturer in leadership development.
This couldn’t happen without a larger community, in this case support from the Evangelical Education Society and the continuing, primarily electronic, connection and support from those at the Center for the Ministry of Teaching. And we here at VTS will be enriched in ways yet unknown when Dorothy returns a year from now.
