This weekend is our biggest recruitment event of the year. Our 'Conference on Ministry' is the event when we invite those discerning about Seminary to consider Virginia Theological Seminary as their place of formation and learning.  Academic Administration and Student Life has spent months preparing for this weekend.  Students, Staff, and Faculty have all been involved in the organization.  Every detail of the weekend has been thought about; homes are preparing to receive guests; and Variety Show acts have been rehearsed and are ready to be performed.

For those reading this Commentary, who are our guests, I am delighted to welcome you to Virginia Theological Seminary.  We are really pleased you are here.  We have been praying for you over the last few months and will continue to pray for you as you share our life for this weekend.  May this be a space of enjoyment, reflection, and learning.  Please do not hesitate to ask questions.  A decision to go to school is a major life decision. We want you to leave informed.  We want to help you with the work of discernment.

I am very grateful to all those who have worked so hard.  Particular mention needs to be made of Ms. Jan Sienkiewicz and Ms. Rachel Higgins.  I know you both would want to credit many other people who have shared the hard work with you.  However, on this day, as you watch the guests arrive, I want you both to know how much we appreciate the gifts you bring to this place.  Thank you.

The Very Rev Ian Markham
Dean and President
