The commentary is only written from Monday to Friday. But naturally, there is much that happens over the weekend. And this weekend is no exception. On Sunday, St. Patrick's Day, our very own Zach Harmon sung the Irish National Anthem in Gaelic on the steps of the White House. We congratulate Zach on this achievement.
And on Saturday, it was good to see the Lettie Pate Interim Chapel full as the community gathered for the Ordination to the Sacred Order of Deacons service. This was an ordination, performed with the consent of the Bishop of Virginia, by Bishop Pierre Whalon, the Bishop of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. We were ordaining Fanny Sohet Belanger and Christopher Mark Easthill to the diaconate.
In the same way it is fabulous that we have this deep connection with Immanuel Church on the Hill because it symbolizes our commitment to serving congregations, so it is fabulous that occasionally we have ordinations that symbolize our commitment to the emergence of vocations that serve the church. And of course, as Bishop Whalon reminded us, the ministry of a deacon is defining for all of us. It captures the essence of ministry, which is service.
We welcome two new deacons into our midst. We look forward to their participation as deacons in God's church.
