Even if you don’t have a child enrolled at the Butterfly House, you can’t help but notice all the construction that has happened this summer just outside its doors. Creating a “natural playground” was a dream of Dr. Amy Dyer for many years. Now that dream is becoming a reality.

The space just south of the building had served as tennis courts for decades. When at long last the cracked courts were removed, a second set of courts was found below the first. All those many tennis courts have been removed, earth moving equipment has changed the topography creating hills and valleys, and this week two trike paths were poured in colorful hard rubber.  The space will be gorgeous and most of all fun and interactive.

Now we need your help. The playground project was always planned as a community build project and that time has come. It has been difficult to predict the timing of this due to permit processing, earth moving work, and track installation. The weather has dictated much of this schedule but we now are set.

Beginning on Friday, September 6 and running through Monday, September 9 dozens of volunteers are needed. Experienced persons in woodworking are needed for some playhouses and lots of additional people are needed for river building, slide hill making, planting and plenty more. Food and drinks will be provided and childcare will be available. Please click here to sign up and I look forward to a great “Build.”
