A very warm welcome to the new class of students who are starting their August orientation.  It is great to have you with us.  This is the commentary.  Every day on the website, under 'Dean's Commentary', is a short message to the community.  It is our way of staying in touch.  If you read it daily, then you will know what is going on.

In one of our staff surveys, it was noted that the perspective of the Dean's Office tends to focus on certain departments and exclude others.  So over the summer months, we had different authors write the Commentaries.  The Rev. Dr. Melody Knowles highlighted the work of Academic Administration and Student Life; Ms. Heather Zdancewicz provided a helpful survey of the many areas that she oversees; Ms. Katie Glover provided a very helpful survey of her responsibilities and some important news about personnel; the Rev. Dr. Robert Heaney told us about the work of the CACS and the excitement of the Dodoma Statement; the Rev. Dr. Allison St. Louis informed us about second three years and other programs; the Rev. Dr. David Gortner had the DMin week and profiled some of the remarkable work in that area; the Rev. Dr. Barney Hawkins looked at a different area of his department on each day; Dr. Lisa Kimball invited us to explore the different websites that the CMT oversees; Dr. Mitzi Budde provided a survey of the work of the library and is the only person to allude to a car chase as we focus on our mission; and the Rev. Dr. Lewis Anthony invited us into the world of quiet as we prepare for a new semester.  As I read each commentary, I marveled.  There is so much going on; and so much of it is good.

Thank you to those who wrote the commentary over the summer.  I enjoyed reading them all very much.

The Very Rev Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
