GOEs Begin This Week
Please allow me to wish all the readers of the commentary a happy and blessed New Year. The Christmas season is now upon us. The Christ Child has arrived. Once again we walk with Christ through the sacred calendar.
For our Seniors who are on a track to ordination in the Episcopal Church, 2014 starts in a brutal way. They are gathering on the campus for their General Ordination Examinations. Seven three hour papers over the course of four days (today, Friday, Saturday and Monday). Inevitably, all forms of assessment generate some anxiety. I recommend to our Seniors that they take the moment to listen to Ginny Wilder's beautiful composition
that invites them to locate these days in the wider context of their divine call. And, let us all hold our Seniors in our prayers as they cope with the demands and rigors of these four days.
For the rest of us, it is a matter of refocusing on our work after the break. As we start this new workday of a new year, let us give thanks to God for the pattern of rest and work.
