The dean is currently in Japan and Hong Kong until the end of October. When I became his assistant in March, I immediately noticed that he is always on the go! Whether it has to do with the planning and preparation for our upcoming Bicentennial celebation or other seminary business, the dean is dedicated to making sure VTS is well represented in all his travels. He meets with people and organizations to create connection and strengthen relationships. As he said in the commentary yesterday, “I will bring greetings from the Seminary community in Alexandria, VA. The words, ‘Go ye into the world and preach the Gospel’ were true in the past and are true today. We honor and celebrate that part of our DNA and our heritage."
With many trips already on his calendar, communication with the dean can be challenging. However, he and I ultimately found a system that works for us through Microsoft Planner
. This application is built within our Office 365 and allows us to attach files to tasks, collaborate, and even have a conversation. The dean can pull up the application on his phone from anywhere in the world and answer my questions immediately.
We are constantly discovering new ways to communicate more effectively. If you have any office techniques that are currently working for you, please share them with me. I would love to learn from you!
