Persons of faith believe every day is significant. The gift of time is the most precious gift of all. Every moment that passes is a moment that is given and then gone. So we start a new week. Some in an office, some working with children, some in the classroom, some as students, some as staff, and some as faculty - each moment given is a precious and irretrievable moment.

I start this week with this musing because on this day I want to recognize the Very Rev. Richard Reid (1928-2014). He was a faculty member and then dean at Virginia Theological Seminary. He passed away on September 6, 2014. He gave the most precious gift he could give to this Seminary - he gave years of his life in service.

This Seminary is strong because of the leadership of those who have come before. Dean Reid is a model of such leadership. He gifted to his successor a strong school, whom, in her turn, gifted it to me. They helped create the possibilities of this moment.

On this day, I invite this community to remember Dean Reid. To give thanks to God for his life and to commit afresh to serving the Kingdom as he did. May he rest in peace.
