At their Annual Meeting on May 20 the Board of Trustees approved the new Strategic Plan which takes us through to our 200th anniversary year, 2023. It is a comprehensive plan that focuses on programs: programs for degree seeking students, programs for practitioners - both lay and ordained - and programs for on-site, on-line and hybrid learning.
There are lots of ways to approach strategic planning, and VTS has developed a process that works well for us and focuses on broad input and feedback. All our constituencies - faculty, staff, students, alumni, etc. - are invited to suggest initiatives for consideration. There is always a good bit of overlap in emerging themes, we discover where people's interests and energies lie and often an initiative that at first seems like an outlier gains traction and becomes a reality.
Taking the time to draft a strategic plan and then to monitor it closely provides an institution with a wonderful opportunity to learn more about itself and to have a better understanding of its strengths and weaknesses.
I hope you will take the time to read through the plan and see what VTS will be up to in the next 8 years.
