Renk Theological College

VTS has a strong connection to the Episcopal Church of Sudan.  The current archbishop, the Most Rev Daniel Deng Bul Yak, is a graduate of the MTS program and has received an honorary doctorate. Working with the ECS, VTS strives to support theological education in this quickly growing region of the Anglican Communion.

Duke Divinity School and Virginia Theological Seminary launched the Renk Visiting Teacher Program to help meet the acute need for strong indigenous theological education in Southern Sudan.  Faculty and students travel to the Sudan to teach, augmenting the existing curriculum with biblical Greek and Hebrew.

Past VTS Participants: Dr. Rich Jones, Rosemary Beales (VTS ’05), Shirley Graham Smith (VTS ’05), Elizabeth Felicetti (VTS ’07), Phoebe Roaf (VTS ’08), Clarisse Schroeder (VTS ’09), Patrick Funston (VTS ’11), David Romanik (VTS ‘11).
