On Friday, December 15, Raymond F. Glover, our distinguished professor emeritus of Church Music, died. He served at the Seminary from 1991 to 2000, and was a giant in the world of hymnody; a key part of his legacy was The Hymnal 1982 and the massive four-volume The Hymnal 1982 Companion. Ray Glover was a graduate from the University of Toronto (B.M.), Union Theological Seminary, New York, School of Sacred Music (M.S.M.) and had honorary doctorates from Virginia Theological Seminary and Berkeley at Yale. He was married to Joyce. As a friend, colleague, teacher, and scholar, he will be missed.

Ray Glover remained involved in Virginia Theological Seminary during his retirement. He was involved in the search for the Rev. Dr. William Roberts; he was often present at events; and he was singing and playing right up until his death.

The funeral will be on Thursday,  December 28 at 10:30 a.m., in Immanuel Chapel, here at the Seminary. Meanwhile, please keep Vice President Katie Glover and the extended family in your prayers.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servant Ray with your saints,
where sorrow and pain are no more,
neither sighing, but life everlasting.

The Very Rev. Ian S. Markham, Ph.D.
